Instead of sticking with a single shape of saddle across their entire range Fizik, with the introduction of the Fizik Antares, now have three distinct saddle shapes. With a longer nose the Fizik Antares offers more comfort for riders who need that forward support. The Versus range of Fizik's popular saddles incorporate a central channel aimed that provides relief which will reduce pressure on the rider's perineal zone, minimizing the chances of numbness down there while riding.
The Antares employs a well proportioned rear much like the Aliante combined with a relatively firm reinforced shell made of carbon similar to the more pointed shape Arione albeit with a flatter profile.

Foam thickness is on the thinner side at the rear of the saddle but comfort is ensured with the wider shape which feels more stable under the sit bones while on the all important nose of the saddle Fizik claim to have 10mm of foam padding to keep numbness at bay.
Fizik have come up with their own Spine Concept to work out what sort of saddle you should ride based primarily on your lumbar flexibility. If a rider can easily touch their toes from standing with their legs straight they are labled a 'snake' and the Arione is recommeded. If the rider can nearly touch their toes but really get their hands onto their shins they are known as a 'chameleon' and suited to the Fizik Antares. For riders with poor flexibility, that Fizik call the 'Bull' then the Aliante is recommended.
When you take the time to think about how your flexibility affects your ride it makes sense when you consider the angle of the saddle tip and the ability to get low on the handlebars.
The saddle is certainly on the firm side although there is definitely a degree of cushioning give built into the saddle. If you are testing one for the first time bear in mind it could take a couple of days for the padding to cushion in a bit. One other thing to add is you'll probably be very impressed when you suddenly come across a really short sharp climb and need to pitch onto the nose of the saddle to find that it has got a nice bit of flex in it meaning the narrow platform is actually quite comfortable for climbing.
Fizik Antares fitted with carbon rails weighs in at just 155g with kium railed saddle coming in 30g heavier but still at 185g. If you're looking for a lightweight saddle with plenty of style then the Fizik Antares could definitely be for you. Still not convinced?
